New Technologies from Nissan

Leading Japanese car manufacturer Nissan announced Two new technologies World-First Electro-hydraulic Power Steering system and a new Intelligent Braking Technology.

Electro-hydraulic Power Steering system 

There are two technologies for power assisted steering which are generally used, one is the hydraulic power steering which is used in most of the cars in the world, it utilizes hydraulic pressure generated by a rotary vane pump driven by the engine to assist the driver for steering and the other is the Electric power steering which uses an electric motor to assist the driver, it works on complex electronics. It has more advantages than a Hydraulic one but can be less reliable at times. It is generally used in sports cars luxury cars and hybrids. Electric power steering is considered to be more fuel efficient of the two.

Now Electro-hydraulic Power Steering is a hybrid of the two where the two are combined. Here the hydraulic pump is driven by the electric motor rather than the engine. Nissan claims it to be the worlds first in its press release which i don't completely agree with  Electro-hydraulic Power Steering has been existing for years and used by major manufactures like Ford, Audi, Peugeot, Citroen,Volkswagen, SEAT, Skoda, Suzuki, Opel, MINI, Toyota, Honda, and Mazda. 
Difference here is they say

"For the first time in the world, an Electro-hydraulic Power Steering system has been adopted in which the motor is activated only when the driver is steering"
No details as to how it works have been mentioned to prove the difference though.
It is much more compact and offers better fuel efficiency it will be fitted in the Nissan Fuga and Infiniti M's luxury sport sedan.

Electric Driven Intelligent Brake 
  
The electric driven Intelligent brake system is designed to be used in  hybrid cars. Unlike normal brakes electric driven Intelligent brake works by using the hybrids the vehicle's electric motor to directly operate the brake cylinders. In a hybrid when the driver steps on the brake, the necessary braking force is maintained by regenerative braking system which generates current while braking. The hydraulic pressure of the physical  friction brake is controlled to help maximizing regeneration of electrical energy by the hybrid motor. Because of its simple structure, in which the motor directly operates the brake cylinders, this new Electric Driven Intelligent Brake system has a great potential to be applied to various future hybrid vehicles.
