RIM officially in the Tablet Game : BlackBerry PlayBook

The tablet market is getting hotter and all big/small mobile and computer manufacturers are trying to wash their hands into the money the tablet era is going to create. 
Earlier today RIM (Research In Motion) the company know for its popular BlackBerry Smart phone unveiled  its first ever Tablet called the "BlackBerry PlayBook" which is dubbed to be a Professional tablet PC. Mike Lazaridis, President and Co CEO unveiled  it at the annual BlackBerry DEVCON. 

The device is a master piece I would say it is beautifully designed and is an incredibly powerful device. It features a Cortex A9 based Dual Core 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and the amazing new  BlackBerry Tablet OS which has support for symmetric multiprocessing which makes it great at multitasker, this has a set a new benchmark for the tablet market. In terms of design it is a very slim ultra portable device wich makes it suitable for both work and play. It Measures 5.1”x7.6”x0.4” (130mm x 193mm x 10mm) and weighs in a little less than a pound (400g or approximately 0.9 lb). The tablet features two 3 MP front facing, 5 MP rear facing cameras and supports 1080p HD video recording and video conferencing.




The Playbook features a vivid 7” high resolution display and fluid like multi touch interface. It supports a variety of multimedia formats like 1080p HD Video, H.264, MPEG, DivX, WMV, MP3, AAC, WMA. It also features HDMI video output for displaying content/presentations via projectors and LCD screens.

The BlackBerry Tablet OS
It is built upon on a  QNX Neutrino microkernel architecture, which is one of the most reliable, secure and robust operating system architectures in the world. It is used in fail proof and mission crucial application in planes, trains, medical equipment and core internet routers.
The OS is fully POSIX compliant enabling easy portability of C-language based code, supports Open GL for 2D and 3D graphics hungry applications like gaming, and will run all applications made in  Adobe Mobile AIR as well as the new BlackBerry WebWorks app platform announced today which will help developers around the world create apps for this platform. The OS will also support java thus allowing developers to port existing  Blackberry applications designed for the BlackBerry 6 OS.

This device is a marvel and is far more superior than any other in competition. It is perfect for professional and will make laptop redundant to some extent. No doubt it has a huge corporate market out there.

Availability
The device will be available in retail outlets in the in early 2011 in US and 2nd quarter of 2011 intentionally. No details about the pricing have been reviled yet.
