Last year Apple came up with the iPad which proved to be a revolutionary handheld device, it opened up a whole new segment of portable devices for tech savvy people and the industry alike. Tablets are hybrids between cell phones and PCs. Of course Apple was not the first one to come up with Tablet devices, but yeah, they were the first to put together a great tablet device the iPad which really became popular and come into main stream just like they have done in the past.
After the launch of the first generation iPad competitor started coming up with tablet devices which had far more powerful specs and benefits to offer than the iPad. The iPad 2 is just the answer to the industry which is now filled with Google Android OS powered devices from all kind of manufactures big & small and come in highly varying prices and specifications. Although iPad 2 is the second generation of the device by looking at what it has to offer their is nothing really different or unique about it than the rest of the industry. The only major differences compared to the industry is in the size and battery life plus the additions of new and creative applications which seems to be the selling point for the iPad 2.
Specifications
Talking about the specifications the first thing that's very notable is the thickness of the device, its barely 0.34 inch (8.8 mm) which makes it pretty easy to handle. Thats what the tag line is, "Faster, thinner, lighter".
Its got an new dual core A5 processor based on ARM’s Cortex A9 which Apple claims to make it 2 times faster than its predecessor. Other thing which Apple claims is its 9 times faster in graphic performance although no technical details as to how it happens have been made available. Its got 2 cameras a front facing VGA & rear facing HD camera (720p), supports facetime, video conferencing. Its got a 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display with IPS technology, 1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi) Fingerprint-resistant screen. As usual there is not a lot of detailed tech specs made available. The battery life is calmed to be 10hrs.
Another new thing is its got 1080p output which lets you connect to a HD screen which is really good for presentations. Apple has developed hinged smart covers. Covering the screen only and secured and aligned by magnets, the cover doubles as a stand when folded. The iPad 2 will automatically wake up when the cover is removed, and goes into sleep mode when the cover is returned to the screen. The smart covers have microfiber cloth lining that serves to keep the screen clean.
Price and availability
The iPad 2 will be available in the US from 11th March priced the same as the iPad. The Wi-Fi only version of the iPad 2 will cost US$499 for 16GB, US$599 for 32GB and US$699 for 64GB. The Wi-Fi and 3G model is priced at US$629 for 16GB, US$729 for 32GB and US$829 for 64GB. 26 more countries will be getting the device on March 25 (which includes Sweden, UK, Australia, France, Canada and Greece).
To sum it all up this device has nothing very new in it, Apple is only trying to stay afloat in the highly crowed market. This device is for the Apple Fans who held themselves for a better iPad which offers at least the same things which the competitors have to offers. There are already rumors out there that iPad 3 will be launched by the end of this year which will offer some newer technologies.
