Google 'Build' brings LEGO right in your chrome browser.

LEGO has always been a craze among kids and also adults from a long time and has gained popularity around the world. LEGO is also pretty much a part of Google offices across the world. As a part LEGO Festival of Play online which marks the 50th anniversary of the LEGO in Australia, Google Australia and New Zealand announced; "Build with Chrome" or 'Build' for short. Build is the result of the latest Chrome Experiment. Build lets you explore and build a new world of LEGO creations together online.

Although Build looks like a simple Web App, this might not have been possible a couple years ago. Its proves the fact as to how far browser technology has come, which is making the internet an ever more creative platform. Build has been developed on the WebGL platform which brings the power of 3D graphics right in the browser.

LG Unveils its New P series Cloud Monitors for Office setup

With cut throat competition and increasing power and software costs, it has become really important for businesses these days to reduce office setup and other operational overheads to get the best out of the business. The IT industries solution to the problem was Cloud Computing, making office computing more reliable, efficient and fast. Now we have a huge software environment for cloud computing but it can be fully effective only when we pair it with the right kind of hardware for office needs.

A week ago LG released its new P series of monitors which have been built for the Cloud office environment, something comparable to a Sunray thin client. The P series of monitors are the predecessors of the already existing D&E series of cloud monitors which LG seems to have discontinued.

LG likes to call these new P series of monitors as 'zero client' monitors. the reason being all you have to do is plug in a Keyboard, Mouse and an Ethernet Cable to the monitor and the system is ready to go. It even features this new technology from Cisco called Universal Power over Ethernet (UPoE) technology, enabling it to draw its power right from the Ethernet cable, no power socket needed.

Doggie Poo = Free WiFi internet for everyone around.

With Pet dogs in public parks, Dog poo is something that always comes in the way. It's always difficult to make pet owner clean up the mess. So the best idea to make people work is a reward strategy. 

A Mexican Internet service provider 'Terra' in partnership with an Ad agency called 'DDB Mexico' has come up with an innovating marketing strategy that's not only unique but also a benefit to everyone around.

The idea is pretty simple, Terra has installed these very interesting looking units called 'Poo WiFi' in 10 different parks around Mexico City. When someone puts a bag of dog poo in the unit, it weighs the poo and activates a free public WiFi Hotspot for some amount of time; its like 70 grams = 20mins. The more the poo the more free minutes of WiFi for everyone in the range.

It's a really great idea to spread  awareness among pet owners. Plus its a great way to promote a service. Obviously the units can't make a difference between dog poo and ordinary garbage so the units are manned with hostesses all day, passing out bags for doggie droppings.

Google+ gets a makeover

When Google plus first came out everyone thought it would take social networking to a new level and yes Google Plus does have the potential. But unfortunately the novelty died pretty quick and then a lot of people stopped using Google plus. Although Google Plus now has over 170 million users, I really wonder how many are really active though. So now Google is using it's big programming Guns to make Google Plus the best place for Social networking.

I just logged into my Google+ account today to find out Google plus looks all different than ever before. I must say the new interface looks amazing. It's made things a lot simpler to find. Everything looks a lot clearer. I really appreciate the new interface. The free conference video chat feature called 'Hangout' has become much easier to use. Being an avid Facebook user, I must say the new G+ interface has won my heart. If only all my friends on Facebook are willing to be on Google plus. I m ready to stop using my Facebook account.

Indian Television shows on YouTube!

Well it seems like YouTube has struck a major deal with various television media houses in India.

I just logged into my YouTube account to find out a new link tab called "TV shows" . What I ended up discovering is a whole archive of Indian TV shows right there infornt of my eyes, any episode from the shows available at the click of a mouse.

Cat videos are all over the internet and its said that weirdly; "At any given time cat videos make up about 30% of all internet traffic"

YouTube's new Experimental redesign: "Cosmic Panda"

Popular video sharing site YouTube today launched a new experimental user interface (design) for YouTube code named "Cosmic Panda". In its first look it looks a lot different than  the current interface. It has a totally new color scheme. It incorporates more of black around the video window. 

Once you're in the experiment, much of YouTube will look different, including videos, playlists and channels compared to what you are accustomed to see.

The channel pages look good too. They look more wider and the new layout design shows information about the page in a much better way.

Facebook Skype-Powered Video Calling is now official

A few days ago at Tech center we reported a rumor about Facebook's new video calling feature to be revealed on the 6th of July. Its now official! Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the new features at the company's headquarters in Palo Alto, California. This announcement follows up on Zuckerberg making a comment of "something awesome" last week. You can now video chat with your friends right from Facebook at minimal hassle without any software. 

A Facebook App Protects Accounts from Spam and Malware

Facebook has become one big fertile ground for information thieves, hackers and viral spam posts. Despite this, Facebook has done very little to protect its users from all of that bad stuff. So what, someone had to create a Facebook app to protect us from all that spam.

Two University of California, Riverside graduate students who work for a Web protection service company called StopTheHacker.com run by an alumnus Anirban Banerjee, who received his Ph.D. in 2008 from UC Riverside and Michalis Faloutsos, a professor of computer science and engineering at the university have partnered and develop a free Facebook application that detects spam and malware posted on users walls and news feeds.

World IPv6 Day starts Wednesday June 8 2011

Back in January this year the total number of available IPv4 address ran out so no more new IPv4 addresses can be issued. You actually have one reserved for you right now as you surf through the internet. With ever increasing number of devices on the internet, the only long-term solution to this problem is adoption of IPv6, which provides over 4 billion times more address allocation space. IPv6 is used extensively in many large networks already. To make it simpler an IPv4 address looks something like 192.67.1.1. 
While on the other hand an IPv6 address looks like 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334. This gives a great number of addresses that can be assigned.

How to avoid using the new Photo Viewer on Facebook.

This week Facebook rolled out its new photo viewer application/interface and since then there are a lot of negative comments I have come across from users about it. I personally feel its quite an improvement from the previous viewer which for me was a bit slow and the view window was kinda small. Overall I like the new photo viewer also called "theater". It pops out, lets me focus more on the details of the photos than on the surrounding because of the dark background, I can resume viewing updates from where I left just by hitting the close button on the top right. In fact Facebook now stores the photos you upload in a much higher quality compared to the older times. They have increased the size of the photos stored from 720 pixels to 2048 pixels which is high quality. I don't really understand why people these days always complain about anything new on Facebook.

RoboEarth: Internet for robots

Robots are ultimately going to be a part of daily lives in the future. To make robots do what you desire, they need to have the appropriate hardware and have to be programed so as to fulfill the need of the work.

The greatest challenge when it comes to robots is to create robots that can move around in the human world, performing tasks that are beneficial to people and perform a task to the desired satisfaction autonomously.

Although a lot of robots in todays world are autonomous but they are highly constraint to the surrounding. They rely solely on the sensor inputs and the program they have in their memory. If you put the robot in a never before situation, the robot has to plan/process a strategy all over again.
