Google+ gets a makeover

When Google plus first came out everyone thought it would take social networking to a new level and yes Google Plus does have the potential. But unfortunately the novelty died pretty quick and then a lot of people stopped using Google plus. Although Google Plus now has over 170 million users, I really wonder how many are really active though. So now Google is using it's big programming Guns to make Google Plus the best place for Social networking.

I just logged into my Google+ account today to find out Google plus looks all different than ever before. I must say the new interface looks amazing. It's made things a lot simpler to find. Everything looks a lot clearer. I really appreciate the new interface. The free conference video chat feature called 'Hangout' has become much easier to use. Being an avid Facebook user, I must say the new G+ interface has won my heart. If only all my friends on Facebook are willing to be on Google plus. I m ready to stop using my Facebook account.

Facebook Skype-Powered Video Calling is now official

A few days ago at Tech center we reported a rumor about Facebook's new video calling feature to be revealed on the 6th of July. Its now official! Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the new features at the company's headquarters in Palo Alto, California. This announcement follows up on Zuckerberg making a comment of "something awesome" last week. You can now video chat with your friends right from Facebook at minimal hassle without any software. 

Facebook set to Launch 'In-Browser Video Chat'

In the midst of  all the noise the new social networking site Google+  is creating on the blogosphere and the internet, popular internet blog TechCrunch just released a news about a new Facebook Video Chat feature that is said to be launched next week. The new video chat product is powered by Skype and works in the browser.

A Facebook App Protects Accounts from Spam and Malware

Facebook has become one big fertile ground for information thieves, hackers and viral spam posts. Despite this, Facebook has done very little to protect its users from all of that bad stuff. So what, someone had to create a Facebook app to protect us from all that spam.

Two University of California, Riverside graduate students who work for a Web protection service company called StopTheHacker.com run by an alumnus Anirban Banerjee, who received his Ph.D. in 2008 from UC Riverside and Michalis Faloutsos, a professor of computer science and engineering at the university have partnered and develop a free Facebook application that detects spam and malware posted on users walls and news feeds.

World IPv6 Day starts Wednesday June 8 2011

Back in January this year the total number of available IPv4 address ran out so no more new IPv4 addresses can be issued. You actually have one reserved for you right now as you surf through the internet. With ever increasing number of devices on the internet, the only long-term solution to this problem is adoption of IPv6, which provides over 4 billion times more address allocation space. IPv6 is used extensively in many large networks already. To make it simpler an IPv4 address looks something like 192.67.1.1. 
While on the other hand an IPv6 address looks like 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334. This gives a great number of addresses that can be assigned.

How to avoid using the new Photo Viewer on Facebook.

This week Facebook rolled out its new photo viewer application/interface and since then there are a lot of negative comments I have come across from users about it. I personally feel its quite an improvement from the previous viewer which for me was a bit slow and the view window was kinda small. Overall I like the new photo viewer also called "theater". It pops out, lets me focus more on the details of the photos than on the surrounding because of the dark background, I can resume viewing updates from where I left just by hitting the close button on the top right. In fact Facebook now stores the photos you upload in a much higher quality compared to the older times. They have increased the size of the photos stored from 720 pixels to 2048 pixels which is high quality. I don't really understand why people these days always complain about anything new on Facebook.

Facebook finally introduces secure connection ("https")

The forth quarter of last year (2010) was a bit worry some for Facebook considering the fact that there were a lot of questions raised about the security of Facebook. The Firefox plugin Firesheep allowed any amateur to hack into someones Facebook account logged into the same WiFi or other public networks.

The only answer to this question was to make Facebook force the browser into using secure connection to communicate with the website to ensure that the information you send remains private, just like you find on Gmail, Paypal and a various other services which involve online transactions. Finally Facebook has introduced this feature.

This indicates that your browser is using a secure connection ("HTTPS").

Firesheep lets anyone hack into your social network accounts on public networks

After the Toorcon 12 hacker conference in San Diego on Sunday, public and Open WiFi networks cannot be trusted for security any more. Eric Butler, a freelance web application and software developer from Seattle, WA revealed to the world a free Firefox Plug-in called "Firesheep".

This plugin take advantage of the a security issue which is very prevalent across an array websites which include Facebook and Twitter. When logging into a website you usually start by submitting your username and password. The remote server then verifies the information to see if an account matching with the provided information exists and if so, replies back to device with a "cookie" which is used by your browser for all subsequent requests or information transfer.

Facebook adds new security features

Facebook has become a part of life for a majority of its users. We share so much of our personal information on it that we cannot afford to let our account fall prey to hackers and identity thieves. So I would first suggest you to make passwords stronger by using a combination of letters (captial and small) numbers and if possible symbols and please make sure you passwords is at least 8 characters in length.

Its best to create a new Email ID for facebook or use and Email which no one or very few people are aware of,cause your account can only be intruded if the intruder knows your login email in the first place.

Facebook Redesign likely!?

The popular social networking site Facebook is holding an event at its headquarters in Palo Alto, CA. Invitaions have already been sent to big tech news giants.

There are reports that just like twitter revamped it look a few weeks ago facebook will get a new look and have new features and a revamped chat service. Reports say that there has been a state of "Lockdown" at Facebook HQ since last two months or so working on this new design.

Some reports say Facebook has already started rolling out the new design to it users.

There are also rumors that Facebook will integrate video calling powered by skype.

But we can only wait and watch as to whats going to come and we hope its going to add more value and a much simpler user interface.

Woah! The" facebook directory" available as a torrent download!

Facebook has been always been in the news for some or the other privacy issues which really concerns a lot of users, Facebook recently went passed the 500 million user line.

This time its really bad stuff that has happened.

Information of over 100 million user is now available as a torrent download on thepiratebay.org. The torrent was uploaded yesterday (28/7/2010) on PirateBay by the username phatwarez.
